Unusual wheel with an unusual story.This wheel was salvaged from a Chinese fishing junk that washed ashore on the northeast coast of Australia. This wheel has the usual wear found on a working ships wheel. The construction however, is unusual as the wheel is laminated construction,with cast iron center reinforcement plates. Dimensions are 37" W x 2" D. |

One big wheel! Stands 73" tall and 7" thick.I haven't got a proper weight on the wheel yet but it was all my son and I could do to lift it ! I have no history on this item unfortunately,as I bought it from a local estate.My guess however, is it originally came off a large sailing vessel, possibly one of the lumber schooners that used to ply the west coast of North America .It unfortunately has some damage since being used as a chandelier, but is repairable.Please email for shipping info. |

This item is a small galvanized wheel made by Wilcox Crittenden.This one has a wooden drum attached to the back. These were common in older dories or skiffs that used cables to control the rudder.It's in good used condition with wooden spokes and some brass trim.The drum can be removed for display or other applications.
