These are a pair of spoons carved from pieces of whale bone,possibly jawbone.They have taken a slight curve with age but are a nice example,although a little crude,of sailors art.The dimensions are a little over 5" long and about 3/4" wide. |

This is an interesting item.It is a slice of a fossilized mammoth tusk on which has been scrimmed a sailing ship.The mammoth tusk has chipped at the bottom because it is very thin and the back has three age cracks,but it is still a nice piece. dimensions are 2 3/4" high x

Although this is a relatively new piece of scrimshaw it is extremely well done and a very nice piece of the art of scrimshaw. It is the likeness of a sperm whale and the detail is incredible.It is made from an unknown piece of bone and is signed "PUTEP" in the lower left corner. Dimensions are 4 1/4" L x 1 3/8" W x 1/4" D. |
